This is a show that believes that repeating the same speeches over and over again with sad music and "clever" dialogue will make you care about characters in sad situations. There are so many flashbacks and repetitive monologues that if you cut out all the repeated speeches and footage, you'd only be able to fill an episode or two. Plot - This show is so boring, I have no clue how I got through the whole thing. Be prepared for lots of panning frames and reused scenes that lose any potential impact due to being shown again and again at every opportunity. Its like they focused on animating a just a few assets really well, and then didn't bother making enough to carry on the whole story, not that there's much of a story. Animation - The animation is pretty good, but nearly every scene is reused as many times as possible, which comes off as fairly lazy.

True, I'm not prone to shedding tears over fictional characters, and this story was too underdeveloped to invoke any deep emotions, but that is not the sole reason why I am giving this series a low score. The only reason I decided to watch this show is because my friend claimed that it would make me cry. On one positive note, the music was pretty good but overall in my opinion I didn't think of it as the best anime I've seen out there and I could say the same to the live action one as well. I respect everyone who thought this was great, a masterpiece, etc but it just didn't click with me.

It just made me really aggravated to watch this and I just had to stop watching after 4 episodes. I mean if they are going to make a proper anime, just dont make the other characters have the same as one of the main characters. I really just felt so frustrated and irritated by the whole character development here to be honest. Some supportive 'friends' they are! What makes this worse is Kosei isn't an assertive type of person who wouldn't tell those lot to just take a hike. It felt to me that the story was about Kaori, Tsubaki and Ryota were just bullying Kosei to get him back into piano and not given a **** that he had a very hard life with his abusive bossy mother, like really just leave him alone you godforsaken brats. I just felt the storyline and the characters were a bit off. Unfortunately I was watching a very hit and miss anime in which doesn't really show compassion in music but more compassion in greed and just bullying. I was actually looking forward to watching this anime because of all the great reviews I'm seeing here on IMDB and decided to give it a go. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles. Overall I'd certainly recommend this emotional series. The character designs are pretty good and the animation is stunning especially during the musical scenes. While these two characters dominate the series they are supported by a good selection of secondary characters who also contribute nicely. The characters are interesting one can't help caring about Kousei, with his tragic past, and Kaori is an utter delight whose personality lights up the screen especially when she is performing. The bitter sweet story is told in a way that the end is not obvious before the final episode. The performance scenes are beautifully animated capturing both the sound and emotion of the performance. The use of classical music seems a little surprising at first but here it works so perfectly it seems obvious. This is one of those series that feels quite different and keeps anime so interesting.

Their styles are totally different he plays every note exactly as it is written while she plays pieces as she wants to her deviations might not please competition judges but the audiences admire her passionate renditions.
